Why?
  • Arabic language brings us unique culture and landscape, which would be particularly important in 21st century.
  • Furthermore, arabic culture have a profound impact on european culture since the rennaisance time; which digested and developed greek and roman cultures and delivered them to europe: various modern terms came from arabic such as algebra, alcohol , alchemy, algorithm (al-Khawarizmi), alkali, cipher (zero), zenith, nadir (opposite of zenith), etc, where 'al' means 'the' in Arabic.
  • Lots of names of stars also came from Arabic:
    • Vega (αLyr): 'al-nasr-al-waqi' (the falling vulture)
    • Rigel (βOri): 'rijl' (foot) of Orion
    • Achernar (αEri): 'ukhir al-nahr' (end of the river)
    • Betelgeuse (αOri): 'byt al-jawza' (house of the twins)
    • Altair (αAql): 'al-nasr al-tair' (the flying vulture)
    • Aldebaran (αTau): the follower of 'dabarun' (Pleaiades)
    • Fomalhaut (αPsA): 'fam al-hut' (mouse of the whale)
    • Deneb (αCyg): 'dhanab al-dajaja' (tail of the hen)
  • Most of the vocabulary are collected from textbooks of NHK Arabic language.
  • Ref: Arabic Practical Dictionary (Arabic-English, English-Arabic) N. Awde E K. Smith
  • Arabic-QUERTY of MacOSX is useful to type Arabic character, which mostly correspond to English-QUERTY array of keyboard.
    • Vega (αLyr): 'al-nasr-al-waqi' (the falling vulture、
    • Rigel (βOri): 'rijl' (foot) of Orion
    • Achernar (αEri): 'ukhir al-nahr' (end of the river)
    • Betelgeuse (αOri): 'byt al-jawza' (house of the twins)
    • Altair (αAql): 'al-nasr al-tair' (the flying vulture)
    • Aldebaran (αTau): the follower of 'dabarun' (Pleaiades)
    • Fomalhaut (αPsA): 'fam al-hut' (mouse of the whale)
    • Deneb (αCyg): 'dhanab al-dajaja' (tail of the hen)
  • Ref: Arabic Practical Dictionary (アラビア語・英語辞典) N. Awde E K. Smith

  • To type arabic character, we use keyboad with shift key, with option key, and with shift+opetion key.
  • We can type characters automatically from right to left, but numbers from left to right; what a flexible movement of typing!
